D2 was fine, but after you have all the best items in the game it just gets kinda repetative :\

even more degrading was playing open bnet with all the supreme hacked stuff
like my lvl 99 paladin with every skill in the game, even the boss monsters, 99999999999999 armor, invisible while wearing armor, 100% chance to summon diablo clone on death

god those were the days :\

The example you gave to something starting out free and costing money to do anything was Outwar...

How about an example of this in a real game now?

Give me one MMO that blizzard has released before WoW.

Edit: Battle.net has not released a single game. WoW doesn't even use battle.net servers

Diablo:

Does not have constant new material added into the game by way of new explorable areas, added pvp honor systems, etc.

Does not need a moderate staff on call 24/7 to make sure everything is running ok

Does not have GMs constantly watching the game

Does not have a consistant world which require very expensive servers to be maintained.

Is not an MMO by any means

I felt you'd be noobish enough to say that.

Straight from the FAQ
-------------------------

Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?

Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences. Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, loot stealing, and standing in a queue in order to complete a quest.

Guild Wars takes place in a large virtual world made up of many different zones, and players can walk from one end of the world to the other. In Guild Wars much of the tedium of traveling through the world has been eliminated. Players can instantly return to any safe area (town or outpost) that they have previously visited just by clicking on it in the world overview map.

Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience. Success in Guild Wars is always the result of player skill, not time spent playing or the size of one's guild. As characters progress, they acquire a diverse set of skills and items, enabling them to use new strategies in combat. Players can do battle in open arenas or compete in guild-vs-guild warfare or the international tournament. Engaging in combat is always the player's choice, however; there is no player-killing in cooperative areas of the world.

Players in Guild Wars can play with or against players from around the world in the global tournaments and arenas. And while players are initially placed in a region based on their selected language (so that there is a greater likelihood that others will be speaking their language) they can join up in the always-available International District to form parties and to play with anyone from anywhere in the world.

Remember how in Everquest you had to join a specific server? Notice how in Guild Wars, we are all on the same server? Guild Wars splits up the server load in a much different way. Its basically like Diablo.... except the "chat" is replaced with towns you can walk around in. If this was an MMO, everyone in Lion's Arch would be together... there wouldn't be "districts".

This means the servers cost less. The same goes for when you're not in towns. Everyone has an instance(just like diablo, except no one outside the team can join in the middle), so unlike Everquest, if you're running through the Desert, you won't find other players running around killing creatures at the same time. Because of this, there is much less need for 24/7 GMs.

I have never played Lineage, but I've heard Lineage 2 was a decent game.

Star Wars Galaxies was good MMO except for the horrendous load times.

FF11 was the worst MMO ever made, plain and simple.

Anarachy Online just wasn't very interesting after all the expansions. I played it before and I played it after... they took the story line in a rather boring direction... especially for new players.

World of Warcraft is the best by far... great quest system means you always have a direction and you're not just sitthing here wondering "Where can I go now..." Multiple servers for people who want to roleplay and people who don't like random PvP... almost no load times...etc.
